Filing Season Delayed Until Jan. 30 for 1040 Filers

On Tuesday, January 8, the IRS announced the delay of the 2013 filing season due to the last minute tax law changes under the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA). The Service plans to begin processing 2012 individual income tax returns on January 30, 2013.  The tax law changes will require new forms and programming for the IRS.  The majority of these forms, programming and testing are expected to be completed by Jan. 30.

Taxpayers claiming the residential energy credits, depreciation of property or general business credits may have to wait a bit longer. Due to more extensive programming and form changes required, the IRS is estimating that these taxpayers will be able to begin filing in late February or even into March.
